The Stephen Appiah Foundation (SAF) in partnership with Alive & Kicking Ghana (A&K Ghana) has developed a new and exciting ball for sale across Ghana.
Named after the legendary former Black Stars Captain, Stephen Appiah, the ‘Tornado’ ball will be officially launched on Monday, December 15, 2014 by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mahama Ayariga at the British High Commissioner’s Residence in Accra.
The Tornado ball is worth celebrating! It is the made here in Ghana with local materials by Alive & Kicking Ghana, a charity producing and selling over 1,300 sports balls every month in Accra.
Secondly it is named after the inspirational Stephen ‘Tornado’ Appiah who captained Ghana, to their first ever appearance at the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
The ball will hit the stores at Melcom, Shoprite and GAME from December 15, just in time for the Christmas rush.
With each ball sold, customers will not only be maintaining the jobs 36 young people including those with disabilities working at Alive & Kicking Ghana, but will also be supporting local businesses working in the synthetic leather and rubber industries.
A percentage of the revenues collected with the sale of every ‘Tornado’ ball will go directly to support the work of the Stephen Appiah Foundation in the areas of health, education through sports.
The Stephen Appiah Foundation (SAF) was set up to provide care, quality education, health facilities and opportunities through sports to improve the overall wellness for underprivileged children in Ghana, helping them attain their full potential in life.
It has undertaken projects in various under deprived communities within Accra and beyond.
Alive & Kicking (A&K) is an African charity that manufactures sports balls (footballs, netballs, volleyballs and rugby balls) in Kenya, Zambia and Ghana employing 130 staff and producing 75,000 balls a year for the local and export markets.
Alive & Kicking Ghana started operating in December 2012 and currently employs 36 staff. The employees are principally people who have difficulty finding employment, specifically young people (between 18 and 25) and people with disabilities.
