CAF boast over Nigeria and Algeria success at World Cup

algeriaGhana’s group opponents at next year’s Africa Cup of Nations, Algeria have named their 23-man squad a month ahead of the tournament to be hosted by Equatorial Guinea from January 17 to February 8:

Algeria have been drawn alongside Senegal, Ghana and South Africa in Group C, dubbed the “Group of Death”and will face South Africa in their opening match on January 19.

Algeria were Africa’s top performing team at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, reaching the round of 16 before succumbing to eventual winners Germany.

Squad:

Goalkeepers: Doukha Izzedine (JS Kabylie), Mbolhi Rais (Philadelphia Union/USA), Mohamed Lamine Zemmamouche (USM Alger)

Defenders: Essaid Belkalem (Trabzonspor/TUR), Madjid Bouguerra (Fujaira), Faouzi Ghoulam (Napoli/ITA), Rafik Haliche (SC Qatar/QAT), Assa Mandi Aissa (Reims/FRA), Carl Medjani (Trabzonspor/TUR), Mesbah Djamel Eddine (Sampdoria/ITA), Mehdi Zeffane(Lyon/FRA).

Midfielders: Mehdi Abeid Mehdi (Newcastle/ENG), Nabil Bentaleb (Tottenham/ENG), Yacine Brahimi (FC Porto/POR), Abdelmoumen Djabou (CA Tunis/TUN), Sofiane Feghouli (Valencia/ESP), Foued Kadir (Real Betis/ESP), Mehdi Lacen (Getafe/ESP), Saphir Tader (Sassuolo/ITA)
