Nigeria land in Cameroon for 2023 Africa Boxing Championships

Nigeria (pictured) are one of the countries which have arrived in Cameroon’s capital city Yaounde ready for battle in the $1million Africa Elite Men’s and Women’s Boxing Championships starting tomorrow, July 27 with the official draw.

The Nigerians are returning to the Africa Championships after a six-year absence having last taken part in the continental event in 2017 in Congo Brazzaville, finishing 12th overall with one silver medal won by Army officer, Yetunde Ochunugu in the female lightweight division.

Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games middleweight bronze medallist, Jacinta Ifooma and light-welter, Reilwan Ige are the two internationals in the team. The rest are making their international debut.

Nigeria’s team in Yaounde:

Men:
Flyweight Shittu Afolabi, featherweight Dalapo Omole, light-welterweight Reilwan Ige, heavyweight Adam Oloitan and super-heavyweight Adedeji Tesleen.

Women:
Flyweight Adeola Oyesuji, welterweight Katie Peter and middleweight Jacinta Ifooma.
