Sport superjet launched a fantastic mix: passion for golf, sports journalism and sports-related tourism in the unique setting of the Imperial Forums at Trajan’s Markets in Rome. Golf wore the majestic exclusivity of the Eternal City, which made the Ryder Cup, staged at the Marco Simone Golf Club, even more magical, giving a dream atmosphere.
MAGICAL EVENING
The evening, entitled “Italy Best Golf Night After Ryder Cup”, was organised by Paolo Garlando, Travel Marketing & Communication Manager, and with the patronage of the Italian Sports Press Union and AIPS, the Golf Media Awards were born.
A special recognition for colleagues who has experienced and described the most important and exciting moments of this unique sport.
THE AWARDEES
The Italian Sports Press Union (USSI) underlined the significance of this recognition: “Golf and those who tell it: stories of sports, champions and territories”.
Gianfranco Coppola, President of USSI, who for the occasion represented Gianni Merlo, President of AIPS, managed the space dedicated to information in the context of the story of sport which validates places, culture and tourism.
So on stage to receive the special recognition were: “For 40 years of experience” Iacopo Volpi, Director of Rai Sport; “For the style and authority of the voice and face now dedicated to Golf” Massimo De Luca; “For the story that enhances the beauty of golf” Francesca Piantanida of Sky Italia; “For competence and passion” James Corrigan, The Telegraph and “For the reference news for the world of golf” Ewan Murray, The Guardian.
RECOGNITIONS
The presence of 15 ambassadors sealed the international nature of the evening, organised with the support of Roma Capitale, Regione Lazio, Convention Bureau, Federalberghi, Federgolf Lazio and the creative collaboration of Deborah Garlando, event manager and founder of MHR.
And in this high-level context, a special prize was also awarded to Franco Chimenti (President of the Italian Golf Federation) for his extraordinary contribution to the world of Golf with a memento in memory of the illustrious journalist and expert in the sector Fulvio Golob. Carlo Scatena (President of the Lazio Italian Golf Federation Committee) collected the award, presented by Mariano Angelucci (President of the Tourism, Fashion and International Relations Commission), who with Chimenti will create a dedicated moment during the Ryder Cup Rome 2023 at the Marco Simone Golf Club.

Doing the honours were Alessandro Onorato (Councillor for Major Events, Sport, Tourism and Fashion of the Municipality of Rome), followed by Luciano Crea (President of the Culture, Entertainment, Sport and Tourism Commission) who sent greetings from the President of the Lazio Region Francesco Rocca, Onorio Rebecchini (President of the Rome and Lazio Convention Bureau) and Rossana Ciuffetti (Director of Sport Impact and Sport School of Sport e Salute S.p.A.).
LOYALTY
Paolo Garlando, for Best Golf, also presented the loyalty award to the Castelgandolfo Country Club golf course as the course with the most green fees sold through the Best Golf platform.
RAFFLE
The evening ended with a fascinating raffle. The Rocco Forte Hotels chain is giving away a holiday to one of the two foreign journalists, 3 days at the Verdura Golf Resort in Sicily and 2 at the De La Ville in Rome. Of the two journalists in the running, the voucher was awarded to James Corrigan of the Telegraph. The award was presented by Donato Di Ponziano, linked to the hotel chain and with several editions of the Ryder Cup behind him, an Italian excellence in the world golf circuit.
PRESENTER
The evening was brilliantly hosted by the journalist Anna Maria Di Luca, who has been a witness and narrator of major sporting events for years.
