Kotoko welcome Aduana to kick off match day 5 Friday

Two former Premier League champions, Asante Kotoko and Aduana FC will renew rivalry at the Baba Yara Sports stadium on Matchady 5 of the betPawa Premier League on Friday, October 13, 2023.

Asante Kotoko – record holders of the Ghanaian topflight with 24 titles will clash with two-time champions Aduana FC as both sides aim to make a statement of intent in the early stages of the season.

The Porcupine Warriors recorded their first win of the season on Monday following a 1-0 win over Accra Lions FC at the Accra Sorts Stadium and will be looking for their second consecutive win of the season to put to bed their unimpressive start to the campaign.

New recruit Kalou Ouattara scored the winning goal in the 96th minute to give his side the priceless victory.

The Reds are winless in their last six home matches having drawn all 6 matches, scored 2 and conceded 2. Asante Kotoko sit in 10th place in the League table with 5 points after one win, two draws and one loss in four games.

Their young team squad is under pressure to turn things around after investing heavily in the summer and hiring the services of their former manager Dr. Prosper Narteh-Ogum.

Aduana FC imploded in the closing stages of last season to lose the League title to Medeama SC but their journey looks very promising this time having secured two home wins and lost two on the road in their opening four matches. The Ogya lads have scored 4, conceded 3 and sit in 6th place in the League table with 6 points – two points behind leaders Bofoakwa Tano.

They seem to have an edge over Asante Kotoko in recent meetings at the Baba Yara Sports stadium after picking one win, one draw and one defeat in their last three meetings against Asante Kotoko in Kumasi.

In the 2020/21 season, Asante Kotoko lost 0-1 at home to Aduana FC whiles the 2021/22 season ended 1-1 with the Porcupines Warriors getting their victory in the 2022/23 season when they came from behind to win 2-1 through Stephen Mukwala and Eric Zeze.

The Dormaa lads have replaced Samuel Fabin with former Ghana midfielder Yaw Acheampong after the former joined Legon Cities following the disappointing end to the 2022/23 campaign.

Yaw Acheampong has the likes of Isaac Mintah, Godfred Poku Wakii, Rich Sackey, Alex Boakye, Bright Enchil, Justus Torsutsey, Bright Adjei, Sam Adams and Emmanuel Gyamfi available for selection.

Asante Kotoko coach Dr. Narteh-Ogum will go into the game in search of their first win in six home games and would expect the likes of Stephen Mukwala Desse, Baba Yahaya, Andrews Ntim Manu, Kalou Ouattara, Nurudeen Yussif Mohammed to rise to the occasion.

The game will be broadcast live on StarTimes Adepa channel 247 at 6pm.
