Usain Bolt says he might keep running until 2020

Usain Bolt

For years, Usain Bolt has hinted at retirement after the 2016 Summer Olympics or perhaps the 2017 world championships.

Now, it seems, he is reconsidering.

Speaking with a Jamaican television host, Bolt suggested he might try to stretch his competitive career.

“We’ll see, because the coach says I can go on to even the next Olympics in 2020,” Bolt said. “I’m not going to say what I’m going to do, but my coach said I should stop talking about retirement.”

The 29-year-old sprinter has already cemented his legacy, winning gold in the 100, 200 and 400 relay in the previous two Olympics. He holds the world record in the 100 and 200.

A series of injuries over the last two years could influence his decision for the 2020 Tokyo Summer Games.

“Let’s just go through those two years and see what happens,” he said.
