Barnieh nets brace as Hearts beat Ashgold, Dreams shock Great Olympics

Hearts of Oak kept alive their faint Ghana Premier League title hopes with a good win over AshantiGold at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday evening.

Daniel Afriyie Barnieh found his scoring boots as he netted a brace to secure a 2-1 win.

The striker who hadn’t scored since January 16 opened the scoring in the 12th minute when he converted a penalty.

The lead lasted for 13 minutes as the Miners levelled through Aminu Adams who headed in the rebound after a brilliant play by Yaw Arnor.

Arnor was lively and caused problems for Hearts but his finishing was poor. He missed a couple of good opportunities before Barnieh stunned Ashgold with his second goal.

Barnieh found the net with a powerful shot from outside the box to secure three points for Hearts to return to winning ways.

Hearts are 12 points behind leaders Kotoko who face Eleven Wonders on Monday.

Earlier in the day, Dreams FC produced a five-star performance to shock Great Olympics in Dawu.

Dreams were 2-0 up before the 5th minute and added three goals to secure an impressive 5-2 win at the Threatre of Dreams.

Hans Kwofie got his first goal of the season in Legon Cities 2-1 win over struggling WAFA.

Real Tamale United held Aduana Stars to a 1-1 draw at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium. Hooligans attacked the referee at the end of the match.

Bibiani Gold Stars recorded a slender victory over relegation-bound Elmina Sharks at home.

Bechem United move up to second with 1-0 win against Accra Lions at Nana Gyeabour Park.

Karela United drew 1-1 with Medeama on Friday in the western derby.
