Ashanti Regional NSA meet GES to discuss matters of mutual interest

On Monday, June, 27, 2022, a delegation from Ghana Education Service (GES) in the Ashanti region paid a visit to officials of the National Sports Authority (NSA) at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium to have a discussion on the upcoming inter school sports in the Ashanti region.

GES has over the years used the Baba Yara Sports Stadium to host Senior High Schools’ sports in the region. Inter-co, Sizo & Milo games have headlined the GES’ yearly sporting activities.

But these competitions haven’t been held since 2020 due to the outbreak of Covid-19 but after the ban on sporting activities was lifted, the GES has commenced qualifiers that will see about 32 Senior High Schools qualify for the soccer competition; ‘Milo Games’.

However, there had been unresolved issues between NSA and GES regarding damages of properties at the stadium that marred one of GES’ sports competition in 2019.

In light of this, the GES in the Ashanti region called on leadership of NSA-Ashanti together with the Director General, Prof Peter Twumasi to have a discussion on the way forward as the two parties work to avoid similar occurrence in the future.

The engagement ended successfully with the GES expected to hold another meeting with the NSA to bring closure to the issue.

The delegation from GES were; K. Darfour Osei Bonsu-Regional accountant GES, Prince Acheampong Sabuto-Executive Committee Member GES Sports Federation, Suleiman Z. Yeaboah-Chairman of Sports Federation GES, Dr B. K. Baah-Vice Chair CHASS, Issah Ginus, Auditor GES, James Jagri Kwame GES member, Lt. Col. Godwin Agbetey, GES member for Sports Federation, Michael Okoto, Physical Education coordinator GES and Father Stephen Owusu Sekyere.

The NSA staff that were present during the meeting are; the Acting Regional Director Emmanuel Kojo Appiah, Linda Adarkwa Yiadom, Administrator, George Basoah, Accountant, Patience S. A. Mensah, Public Relations and Simon Kuku Gulpkor

The GES have outlined two sporting activities to be held in the coming days; Boys Soccer and Inter-School Athletics competition. The Boys Soccer will be organized for a period of four days while the Athletics will last for 3 weeks.
