GH¢50k up for grabs for winners of Accra Inter-City Homowo Marathon

The top 10 athletes of the upcoming Accra Inter-City Homowo Marathon will have a GH¢50,000 (fifty thousand Ghana Cedis) prize pot to share, the Medivents Consult organisers have announced.

The winners in both male and female categories of the 21-kilometer race, will get GH¢10,000 (ten thousand Ghana Cedis) each as well as various products from the sponsors.

The second-placed athletes in both categories will also receive GH¢5,000 while the third-placed runners get GH¢3,000 each.

Athletes who place fourth and fifth in both categories will be rewarded GH¢1,500 and GH¢1,000 each respectively with marathoners placed 6th to 10th will get GH¢500 each.

Mr. Henri Senyo Penni, General Manager of Medivents Consult, organisers of the marathon in an interview revealed all runners who finish the race will get a certificate.

Mr. Senyo Penni further disclosed that they have secured trips to London and South Africa for the ultimate winners of the race and would ensure that all prize obligations are fulfilled.

“We want to use the marathon to promote long-distance running and also help unearth talents. We are grateful to our sponsors for believing in our brand and we are hopeful of delivering a superb marathon come July 30,” he said.

The race will start from Spintex Road (Papaye) and end at Mantse Agbona in Jamestown, all in Accra.

Sponsors of the maiden event of the marathon include HD+, Allied Consortiums, Indomie, MyBetAfrica, Goil, Ethiopian Airlines, Asky Airlines, Africa World Airlines, Aqua Blue Mineral Water, Escort Securities, Happy FM and Oceanic Resort.
