Tanzania suspend manager Adel Amrouche, handed eight-match ban by CAF

Tanzania have suspended manager Adel Amrouche after he was handed an eight-match ban by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

CAF has imposed the ban on Amrouche following comments and allegations made about the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF).

A statement from CAF said that “the disciplinary jury decided to impose an eight-match suspension on Amrouche,” while the Tanzania Football Association has been fined $10,000 (£7,870).

On Friday, the Tanzania FA issued a statement that confirmed they had suspended Amrouche. They also said that “Hemed Morocco has been appointed as acting coach, and he will be assisted by Juma Mgunda”.

Amrouche took over as Tanzania’s manager in March 2023, guiding them to AFCON by securing a crucial point against Algeria during their final qualifying match.

The 55-year-old has previously had stints at Equatorial Guinea, Burundi, Kenya, Libya and Botswana.

Tanzania, meanwhile, lost 3-0 to Morocco on Wednesday. They are aiming to advance to the knockout stages for the first time in their third appearance at the AFCON finals.

Their next fixture at the tournament comes on Sunday against Zambia in Group F.
