Nations FC, Heart of Lions through to Division One League Super Cup semis

Nations FC and Kpando Heart of Lions have qualified for the semi finals of the ongoing Division One League Super Cup after winning their last Group A matches on Saturday.

The two newly promoted sides opened the competition at Abrankese on Friday – where Ishmael Antwi scored a second half goal for Nations FC to win 1-0 at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports complex.

For Nations FC, they needed a win to top the Group following a 2-2 draw against Techiman Eleven Wonders in midweek while Heart of Lions aimed to avoid defeat to exit the competition having won against Koforidua Semper FI to keep their ambitions alive after the opening day defeat.

Nana Kwame Oppong scored the opener for Heart of Lions inside 14 minutes before Ebenezer Abban doubled their lead in the 41st minute to give them a 2-0 cushioning at the break.

Back from recess, Taufik Fuseini reduced the deficit for Techiman Eleven Wonders in the 68th minute but Lions fought back to restore their two goal advantage through Samuel Agbenyegah in the 78th minute before Akwasi Duah put the game beyond the Techimnan lads with a sublime finish inside 85 minutes at the Paa Joe Park.

In the other game, Nations FC defeated Koforidua Semper FI 2-0 to finish on top of Group A with 7 points.

Heart of Lions will now play the winner of Group B in the semifinals as Nations FC clash with Group B’s runner up in the other semifinal match.
