Nebraska volleyball team sets attendance record for a women’s sporting event

The Nebraska Huskers set a new attendance record for a women’s sporting event with a 3-0 win over Omaha.

The 92,003 spectators who filled the Memorial Stadium (an American football stadium adapted for the occasion) exceed by almost 500 people the 91,648 who attended the Champions League match between FC Barcelona and Wolfsburg in April 2022.

The number of attendees is also the highest record in the stadium, home of the Nebraska Cornhuskers, an American football team.

“Volleyball Day in Nebraska”

This is no accident. The record is something that comes after months of intense work. The day, which was baptized as “Volleyball Day in Nebraska.”

Despite seeking to fill the stands, the tickets were not free. In fact, they had an original price of $25 for adults and $5 for children, however, with demand so high, some tickets were being sold for as much as $400 prior to the event.

Only Covid and snowstorms had suspended University classes

The local coach, John Cook, wanted to thank the support of those responsible at the university, who gave the students a day off in order to prepare for the event.

The coach noted that there were only three things that ever closed the school here: “One, the snowstorms, two, COVID and three, Nebraska volleyball in the stadium.”

Stadium record

The 92,003 fans are not only a milestone for women’s sport, but also a new record for the stadium. So far, the largest attendance was 91,585 during the Cornhuskers’ win over Miami in September 2014.
